Angela Hewitt

Angela Hewitt piano

Mozart – Sonata in C minor K 457
Beethoven – Sonata in C major Op 53 Waldstein
Mozart – Sonata in D major K 576
Ravel – Le Tombeau de Couperin

The Canadian pianist Angela Hewitt, who first made an impact on the musical world with her unrivalled performances of Bach, has been winning golden opinions in a wide range of other repertoire. In this recital, she plays two contrasting sonatas by Mozart, the dramatic C minor and the outgoing D major (his last piano sonata), together with Beethoven’s magisterial Waldstein Sonata and Ravel’s suite, in imitation of French Baroque dances, Le Tombeau de Couperin. The Ravel is an appropriate choice for this Remembrance Day: its individual movements are dedicated to the memory of friends of the composer killed in combat in the First World War.
