Mozart – Sonata in E minor K 304
Beethoven – Sonata in A major Op 47 Kreutzer
Chloë Hanslip and Danny Driver, two outstanding soloists who are also well established as a duo partnership, have been working their way through the Beethoven sonatas for a new series of recordings. The first instalment was praised in Gramophone magazine for “engaging and accomplished performances”, and for the effective combination of Hanslip’s “wide-grained tone” and Driver’s “quiet wit”. Today they perform the most ambitious work in the cycle, the “Kreutzer” Sonata, which Beethoven described as “almost like a concerto” (and that’s for both players!). It’s preceded by Mozart’s arresting E minor Sonata.
