The internationally acclaimed Jerusalem Quartet makes a welcome return to Bath to launch this year’s Mozartfest. It begins the programme appropriately with a Mozart quartet, the one nicknamed the Hunt because of its opening jog-trot rhythms – and the work with which the Jerusalem Quartet gained a place in Gramophone magazine’s list of “Top 10 Mozart Recordings”. The group follows this with the ever-fresh Quartet by Debussy; and to end the programme it’s joined by the Canadian cellist Gary Hoffman for Schubert’s late Quintet, often cited as the composer’s supreme masterpiece and indeed as the summit of the art of chamber music.
