Sir Mark Elder conductor
Francesco Piemontesi piano
Weber – Overture to Oberon
Beethoven – Piano Concerto No 5 in E flat major Op 73 Emperor
Wagner – Preludes to Acts I and III from Lohengrin
Wagner – Suite from Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg
Bath Mozartfest is proud to welcome back the Hallé with Sir Mark Elder, who has been music director of the Manchester-based orchestra since 2000. Ever since 1981, when he conducted Die Meistersinger at the Bayreuth Festival, Sir Mark has been acknowledged as a Wagner specialist – and that reputation is only being enhanced by his Ring cycle currently in progress with the Hallé. So it’ll be a special thrill to hear these forces performing well-known orchestral extracts from Lohengrin and Die Meistersinger. Before that, the Swiss pianist Francesco Piemontesi, much in demand for major festivals, is the soloist in Beethoven’s towering Emperor Concerto. Early booking is recommended for this special event.
